Capitol Report – February 5, 2020

The New Mexico State Senate this week approved a bill on Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s legislative call that clears the way for the state to negotiate with the federal government to important prescription drugs from Canada.

Tom Trowbridge reports from the Roundhouse:

Senate Bill One would allow the state to pursue potential imports of prescription drugs from Canada on a wholesale basis in search of cost savings.

Las Cruces Democrat Mary Kay Papen is the sponsor of the measure:

         Senator Papen :33

The bill passed the Senate unanimously Tuesday. Still there were some questions about the economics of New Mexicans buying prescription drugs from our neighbor to the north. This is Albuquerque Republican Senator William Payne:

         Senator Payne  :24

Senate Bill One now moves to the House for consideration.
