At the Roundhouse this week, one of the most controversial bills in the 2020 30-day session had its final committee hearing before being advanced to the Senate floor.

Senate Bill Five, the so-called “red-flag” gun bill underwent some changes after its first hearing before the Senate Public Affairs Committee. Democratic sponsor, Senator Joseph Cervantes of Las Cruces significantly revised the legislation to allow only law -enforcement officials and not family members to petition for guns to be temporarily denied to people who pose an apparent danger to themselves or others.
During debate on the measure, testimony became emotional. This is Pamela Wiese Powell, who spoke in favor of the bill:
