INTRO

A BILL THAT WOULD ALLOW DOCTORS TO PRESCRIBE LIFE ENDING DRUGS TO TERMINALLY ILL PATIENTS IS ONE STEP AWAY FROM THE GOVERNOR’S DESK.

AS KOB 4’S KAI PORTER EXPLAINS – ANOTHER BILL THAT WOULD KEEP NEW MEXICO ON DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME YEAR ROUND HAS RUN OUT OF TIME.

RUNS:      1:28                      OUT: STANDARD

WITH JUST FOUR DAYS LEFT IN THE 60-DAY LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

A BILL THAT WOULD ALLOW MEDICAL PROVIDERS PRESCRIBE LIFE ENDING MEDICATION TO PATIENTS WITH SIX OF LESS MONTHS TO LIVE PASSED THE SENATE MONDAY BY A 24 TO 17 VOTE.

THE PATIENT MUST BE OF SOUND MIND AND ABLE TO TAKE THE MEDICATION THEMSELVES.
HOUSE BILL 47 WILL NOW HEAD BACK TO THE HOUSE TO APPROVE SENATE AMENDMENTS BEFORE IT HEADS TO THE GOVERNOR’S DESK.
THIS IS THE THIRD TIME LAWMAKERS HAVE CONSIDERED THIS BILL.

MEANWHILE — THE SUN HAS SET ON A PUSH TO KEEP OUR STATE ON DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME YEAR-ROUND.
A HOUSE COMMITTEE SHOT DOWN THE BILL MONDAY… VOTING SEVEN TO THREE TO TABLE THE PROPOSAL..
OPPONENTS ARGUED THE MOVE WOULD PUT US OUT OF SYNC WITH NEIGHBORING STATES AND WILL POTENTIALLY HURT BUSINESS AND TRADE WITH MEXICO.

SUPPORTERS SAID THE TIME CHANGE CREATES SAFETY ISSUES AND HEALTH PROBLEMS.

TWO BILLS THAT WOULD LEGALIZE…. REGULATE AND TAX RECREATION MARIJUANA FOR USE BY ADULTS 21 AND UP ARE STILL AWAITING HEARINGS IN THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE.

HOUSE BILL 12 AND SENATE BILL 288 WERE ONE THE COMMITTEE’S AGENDA MONDAY – BUT WERE PUSHED BACK.

WITH TIME RUNNING OUT… HOUSE BILL 12 HAS THE BEST CHANCE OF MAKING IT TO THE GOVERNOR’S DESK… HAVING ALREADY CLEARED THE HOUSE.

IF IT PASSES THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE – IT’LL HEAD TO THE SENATE FLOOR FOR A VOTE.

THE GOVERNOR SUPPORTS THE PROPOSALS.
