Bill to limit double dipping dies

SANTA FE - A move to prevent public employees from collecting their salary and a legislative stipend at the same time failed Tuesday, stopped in its tracks by a group of Democrats. The proposal, by Rep. James Smith, R-Sandia Park, was aimed at teachers, school administrators and others on the public payroll who also serve in the Legislature. Some of them collect their public paychecks as well as $153 in daily expense money while serving in the Legislature.
