Santa Fe- Wednesday, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced she had signed Senate Bill 256 Fire Protection Fund into law. The bill, sponsored by Senator William Burt (District 33 – Chaves, Lincoln & Otero), preserves the annually allocated funds in the Fire Protection Grant Fund. In the past, the legislature or administration would raid the fund for other pet projects. This simple but important fix ensures fire and rescue departments statewide have access to a pool of money for improving equipment, purchase of new equipment, training and retention projects.
