SANTA FE — Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca (R-Belen), and Senate Democratic Leader, Senator Peter Wirth (D-Santa Fe), announced a compromise to fix New Mexico’s medical malpractice problem. Senate Bill 523, sponsored by Leader Baca and Leader Wirth, is a long-term fix to the malpractice insurance crisis that threatened to put independent providers and outpatient facilities in New Mexico out of business. The bill is the culmination of weeks-long negotiations between key stakeholders, brokered by Leader Baca and Leader Wirth.
