An off-duty Jicarilla Apache game and fish officer has been charged with extreme animal cruelty after he decapitated a kitten in his family’s bathroom sink. 40-year-old Joseph Weaver was arrested by Bloomfield police after police were called to his home in the 1100 block of Mountain View for a welfare check. Weaver’s wife told police she found the family’s 9-week-old kitten with its head severed floating in the bathroom sink. Police located Weaver’s bloodied pocketknife and the kittens in a wrapped towel. Weaver was charged with a fourth-degree felony extreme animal cruelty. He was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center and was later released.
