Cooks Peak Fire grows to 21,000 acres, mandatory evacuations issued

Multiple fire units are working to contain a fire that broke out on April 17, near the Mora County-Colfax County line. The Cooks Peak Fire has burned 21,000 acres with no containment. Fire officials say significant winds, drought conditions and an abundance of fuels continue fuel the rapid spread of the fire. The eastern side of the fire is the most active as it continues to burn closer to the Colfax County line.
